Canyon Tidbits

  • "He who slings mud generally loses ground" (Canyon Wren)
  • You can make a poison oak remedy from acorns. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add acorns. Use enough so they are all covered by the water. Cover the pot and let sit for at least 1/2 hour. Drain the water from the pot. Put the brown liquid into ice cube trays and freeze. Rub the cubes over the poison oak blisters. This is said to relieve the pain and speed the healing process. For more things to do with acorns, see this site. Here is another home remedy for Poison Oak. And yet another.
  • One long-time canyon visitor recently attended a cabin-warming party. "Cactus", John Ware, of Laguna Beach told the cabin owner that his father used to be a Ranger for the Forestry Service sometime in the late 1920's. His father occupied Cabin #1 during his service. Cabin #1 is still standing and in original condition.
